I just read an article written by a journalist who was help captive by extremists. The article stopped before it explained how he made it out in a literal sense, but it implied it.

He knew to keep his mouth shut when the war torn commanders would visit, but after noticing boredom in the faces of his captors, he talked to them. Eventually, they were singing songs together to alleviate the boredom.

In the end, art is what freed this man.
